Nurse Practitioner Services:
What is a Nurse Practitioner?

Nurse Practitioners are the most autonomous and senior clinical nurses in the Australian health care system. They have the authority, expertise, and clinical experience to diagnose and treat patients of all ages, with a variety of health conditions. There are only around 3000 Nurse Practitioner’s in Australia, and their title is protected and endorsed by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia. It is within a Nurse Practitioner’s ability to assess and diagnose health problems, order and interpret diagnostic investigations, formulate and assess response to treatment plans, prescribe medicines and refer to other health professionals within their scope of practice.

Dermatology Nurse Practitioners diagnose, investigate and manage conditions of the hair, skin and nails using both pharmalogical (medications) and non-pharmalogical interventions. They offer affordable and holistic care solutions for patients seeking advice and skin management options.

When should I book to see Pene?

Seeing a Nurse Practitioner does not require a referral; however Pene can continue to work in collaboration with your GP if you wish. Pene can also internally refer you to a specialist Dermatologists at Northern Sydney Dermatology and Laser if your condition requires escalation and extra support, without the need to go back to your GP.

Book to see Pene if you are wanting advice and/or treatment planning for:

Acne (adult and teen)
Early intervention for acne is essential to help prevent permanent scarring. It can be mild, moderate or severe and have a huge impact on self-esteem. Treatment options are individualised and can include, topical skincare, prescription medication and LASER.

Facial ageing
How we age is influenced by both intrinsic and extrinsic factors. Consultation and treatment planning to soften and support the signs of ageing therefore needs to be individualised. Treatment options discussed will depend on skin quality, volume loss, underlying boney support as well as muscle contraction patterns.

Rosacea
Rosacea is a common and very chronic long term condition, needing a long term, consistent management approach. It can often be misdiagnosed as acne, dermatitis and other skin conditions. Effective Rosacea treatment often requires a combination of medical and LASER therapy.

Skincare advice
Skin care routines should be bespoke. Factors such as age, degree of sun damage, associated problems (eg eczema, acne, irregular pigmentation) as well as adolescence, pregnancy and menopause have a major influence on how skin should be managed topically.

Scar management
Rarely is a single treatment alone effective in minimising the appearance of surgical, traumatic and self harm wounds. Multiple techniques combining LASER and medical therapy are generally required for effective results, which aim to lighten and flatten the appearance of scars.

LASER consultation
LASER technology is used in dermatology to help reduce the appearance of facial redness, vascular anomalies, facial wrinkles, skin pigment irregularities, age spots, acne, as well as surgical, self harm and traumatic scars. They can also be used to improve skin quality, reduce pore size and balance tone.
